Hello Autumn

Hello, Autumn. It’s good to see you again
My beautiful, colourful, once-a-year friend
May I say you look splendid, a fabulous blend
Of historical leaves and the hearts that you’ll mend

Hello, Autumn. I’m glad that it’s your time of year
Filled with bonfire smoke and Halloween fear
Pinch my face in the morning, remind me you’re near
With your dew-laden footsteps and mist cloaked deer

Hello, Autumn. Did you ever appear quite so fine?
Through streaky clouds and watery sunshine
Oranges, golds that I swear are just mine
And days long gone kissed by echoes of time

Hello, Autumn. You’ve got something you’d like me to see?
How to let go of what can no longer be
Close my eyes, with a slow kiss set me free
Stepping back into cinnamon shadows with me

Hello, Autumn. You’ll soon be off I suppose
Trees on fire, extinguished by a cold wind that blows
Fireworks fading for mornings that froze
And a low burning candle my memories chose

Goodbye, Autumn. I hope that I’ll see you again
My beautiful, colourful, once-a-year friend
For now I’ll seek solace in reflections you lend
Of historical hearts on the leaves that you send.
